Laser
Hair Removal
Laser Hair Removal is a procedure in which a beam of light passes
through the skin to the root of the hair follicle, where it is absorbed.
The laser energy is then transformed into heat, which disables the
hair follicle. This results in hair growth that is significantly
hindered or even permanently eliminated. Specialized cooling methods
are used to gently chill the skin while removing the unwanted hair.
Complete hair removal may be achieved in only three visits.

Both
men and women can take advantage of this procedure to treat unwanted
hair on their back, shoulders, neck, forehead, eyebrow area and
virtually any other unwanted places. People elect to derive benefit
from this procedure because it is painless and requires little to
no recovery time. This procedure has proven to be safe, gentle and
effective, affording people a simple solution to unwanted body hair.
How
is a laser hair removal procedure performed?
During
a laser hair removal procedure, your surgeon will run a laser that
produces a powerful beam of invisible light over the area you are
treating. The invisible light emitted from the laser passes harmlessly
through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. This action
disables the hair follicle and reduces its ability to grow new hair.
Lasers used in this procedure are designed to act on hair follicles
only, leaving surrounding tissues untouched. The pulses produced
by the laser create a minor burning or stinging sensation that most
patients can tolerate without the need of any anesthetic. After
the procedure, your treated area may be slightly pink or swollen,
producing the feeling of mild sunburn for a day or two.

What
are the possible complications after a laser hair removal procedure?
Though
complications with laser hair removal are rare, there is a minimal
chance of scarring, and in certain instances increased or decreased
skin pigmentation may occur on the sites being lasered. In most
cases, changes in pigmentation will resolve themselves during the
natural healing process. Avoiding sun exposure can minimize this
risk. If sun exposure cannot be avoided, be sure to wear protective
sun block lotions at all times. It is always important to be informed
about the possible complications before any procedure. Be sure to
discuss any concerns you may have with your surgeon.

What
results can I expect after a laser hair removal procedure?
After
your procedure your skin will usually be red and swollen, but this
will disappear in a short time. On occasion, small crusting or pimples
may appear around your hair follicles. Your physician can provide
you with an antibiotic ointment that will quickly reduce these symptoms.
You should experience a significant reduction in the growth of new
hair at your treated areas. To achieve permanent hair loss, at least
three treatments will probably be needed at one to three month intervals.
